Confessions of an Economic Hit Man (Book Review)

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins is about “The highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars.

Sounds intense, right?! Well…

With Confessions of an Economic Hit Man you’re in for a fast-paced look at the dark side of Wall Street, globalization and power.

I have never read a book like Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. So let me just say…

John Perkins vividly reveals the terrifying underbelly of global economic development. His stark look at The Corporatocracy will give you an insiders perspective of the global power structure (and it’s one you wouldn’t have imagined in your wildest nightmares). Seriously.

And since I just finished reading this book, you’ll find my book review up to date, accurate and insightful. To disclose my position ahead of time, let me just say: I’ve now recommended this book to multiple friends, even though I just finished it yesterday. And…

I hope this book review will help you determine if “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” is the right book for you too. So without further ado…

Here’s Why “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” is a Good Read:

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a true page-turner that details the rise of John Perkins from his modest upbringing, to his short time in College, to his interviews at the hands of the NSA, to being recruited as an economic hit man and being rapidly promoted to the highest ranks of chief economist at one of the world’s most powerful firms.

Yup, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a step-by-step guide to how John Perkins rose to the upper echelons of the international power structure. And just like you would expect…

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is action packed. The chapters are short, so the book moves fast, you can really get into it quick. Be careful though, because you’ll have trouble putting it down.

So…

Here’s why I really liked reading “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man”

Perkins’ “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” was a really eye opening book for me. First of all, it is believable and credible (which is important given the nature of his claims).

And second of all, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man confirmed a lot of things I suspected, but hadn’t been able to confidently assert (your Bilderberg assumptions are confirmed). That’s because:

Perkins’ book provided a very clear blueprint for how the global power grab has played out over the last 50 years. And the true imperialist agenda the author reveals is probably a lot different from what you imagined the “global growth” narrative to be.

Honestly:

Perkins give a ton of insight into how he climbed the ladder of the global Corporatocracy.  I tell ya…

For someone interested in global financial and currency markets, these lessons about how things really work, are incredibly instructive.  I really appreciated how Confessions of an Economic Hit Man spelled out what truly drives the global economy.

But here is what I liked best of all about Perkins’ book…

What “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” Does Best:

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man does a very good job explaining the ins-and-outs of the global Corporatocracy (composed of international banks like the IMF, specific branches of government, and  Fortune 500 engineering and oil firms). And…

I don’t want to ruin it for you. But…

There are some pretty jaw-dropping scenarios described in Confessions of an Economic Hit Man (Perklins’ personal life included). And the book also gives you a good glimpse into what it takes to be an insider Economic Hit Man. So here’s my takeaway:

Since Confessions of an Economic Hit Man reveals a side of the global economy you didn’t know existed, it encourages you to think very critically about everything you read in the news media today.

This is a point that Perkins really hammers home (both in his anecdotes and explicit warnings). Read between the lines. Things are not as they seem. I might sound like a bit of a conspiracy theorist here, but…

The author would have you believe the world is a lot more like an episode of “House of Cards” than you expect. So be sure you act accordingly.

The last thing I want to share with you is:

What “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” Doesn’t Cover:

Since StockIdeas.org is a blog primarily associated with trading and investing ideas, I think it’s worth stating that “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man” is not the kind of book I typically review on this site. What do I mean by that?

Well:

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man doesn’t have anything to do with specific trading or investing ideas. It’s not about technical indicators or fundamental valuation criteria. And it certainly won’t provide you a shortcut in your stock-picking. On the other hand…

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man does expose a systematic risk, and a new way of interpreting macro-economic events that can influence every market… including the ones you rely on and take for granted.

So:

If you’re looking to get informed as to how power and politics actually work – and the myriad implications for people and portfolios everywhere – then Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a book for you. So let me ask you…

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man – The Final Word:

Do you think you should buy Confession of an Economic Hit Man? I found it to be really eye-opening and would have no problem endorsing it. But just to be sure for yourself…
